Weekly Events for Young Children

Monday: All Aboard!

Monday mornings 9:30 to 2:30 in the Storytime Room for ages 2 and up with a caregiver.
Stop by the Children’s Storytime Room to free build with our reserve collection of wooden trains!
Registration not required.

Tuesday: Storytime Fun

Tuesday mornings 10:30 to 11:00 in the Community Center Activity Room.
Best for children 2 and up, but children of all ages are welcome.

September 8 - December 15.
Read, sing, and dance with Miss Zoe! Enjoy books, interactive songs, and movement activities. Have fun dancing with scarves, shaking shakers, and playing parachute.
Registration not required.
October 27: Halloween Fun! Costumes are welcome!
December 15: Santa visits!
We will not meet on 11/3, 11/24, 12/22, and 12/29.

Wednesday: Baby Sign and Sing

Wednesdays mornings from 9:30 to 10:00, and 10:30 to 11:00 in the Children’s Storytime Room. Designed for birth to three years, and older siblings are always welcome.
September 9 - December 16.

Learn baby sign language with Miss Sarah at this fun, interactive storytime for babies and toddlers! Sing, play, dance and learn through stories, rhymes, puppets and songs.
Registration not required.
October 28: Halloween Fun! Costumes are welcome!
December 16: Santa visits!
We will not meet on 11/11, 11/25, 12/23, and 12/30.

Thursday: Sing & Stomp

Thursday mornings 10:30 to 11:00 in the Community Center Activity Room for all ages.

Read to Hazel
the Therapy Dog

Tuesday afternoons from 4:00 to 5:00 in the Children’s Storytime Room. For readers ages 6 and up. September 15 through December 15.
Children gain confidence by reading aloud to a non-judgmental, friendly therapy dog! Nicole Goolsbey and Hazel are volunteers with the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. Hazel is six years old. She loves water, toys, and getting lots of pets!
Sign up each week for a ten minute time slot with Hazel.
To allow more children to read to Hazel, sign ups are limited to two weeks at a time.
Pre-registration required at 860-739-6926 ex. 2 or stop by the Children’s Library Desk.
No program on 11/3, 11/24, 12/22, or 12/29.

Love to read? Want to meet peers who also love to read? Join our book club for middle school-aged kids to talk about the book of the month.

We meet on the second Wednesday of every month in the Storytime Room from 3:15-4:00pm. 
Students under the age of 12 need a signed permission slip to participate.

NEW at the Library!

STEAM BINS are available for play during your next visit! STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) toys make learning fun. There are six toys to choose from, and each includes challenge cards so you and your child can learn engineering basics, balance, pattern recognition, and so much more while playing. Most of our STEAM Bins contain small parts are are appropriate for kids ages 3 and up. These kits are for Library play only; they are not available for check out. Please visit the Children’s Library Desk to start playing!


Monthly Take and Make Craft Kits

Craft kits are designed by our volunteers for ages 4-8 to complete at home. They are available starting the first Friday of each month while supplies last at the Children’s Library Desk.

Check out your own adventure! These items can be checked out just like a book for three weeks. Browse the puzzles, kits, and backpacks in the Children’s Room.
Nature Backpacks! Bird Watching, Hiking, and Signs of Wildlife backpacks include binoculars and child-friendly field guides for family adventures.
Activity Kit! Road Trip Backpacks keep your kids entertained all summer long, whether on long car rides, during endless siblings’ sport practices, or on rainy days.
Story Puppet Kits: Over 30 kits to choose from! All kits include at least one book and either a puppet or stuffed animal related to the story.
Puzzles! We now circulate children’s floor and jigsaw puzzles ranging from 24 to 300 pieces.
