LibraryCon 2025: November 1, 11am-2pm

The second annual East Lyme Public Library cosplay event is on Saturday, November 1 from 11am-2pm. Join us for an incredible day of cosplay fun while meeting Princess Belle, Captain America, and Black Panther. Jedi Training, crafts, workshops, face painting, temporary tattoos and more make this a day not to be missed! This event also features both professional vendors and a Youth Maker Market! The event and all activities are free, but Care & Share will be on site to accept donations of non-perishable food items. Check back frequently for more details as the date approaches.

Weekly Events for Young Children

Monday: All Aboard!

Monday mornings 9:30 to 3:30 in the Storytime Room for ages 2 and up with a caregiver.
Stop by the Children’s Storytime Room to free build with our reserve collection of wooden trains!
Registration not required.

Tuesday: Storytime Fun

Tuesday mornings 10:30 to 11:00 in the Community Center Activity Room.
Best for children 2 and up, but children of all ages are welcome.

September 23 - December 16
Read, sing, and dance with Miss Rebecca! Enjoy books, interactive songs, and movement activities. Have fun dancing with scarves, shaking shakers, and playing parachute.
Registration not required.
October 28: Not-So-Spooky Halloween Fun! Costumes welcome for a Library Parade.

December 9: Hanukkah Storytime
December 16: Santa comes to Storytime!
We will not meet on the following days: November 11, December 23 and December 30.

Wednesday: Baby Sign and Sing

Wednesdays mornings from 10:30 to 11:00 in the Children’s Storytime Room. Designed for birth to three years, and older siblings are always welcome.
September 24 - December 17.

Learn baby sign language with Miss Sarah at this fun, interactive storytime for babies and toddlers! Sing, play, dance and learn through stories, rhymes, puppets and songs.
Registration not required.
October 29: Not-So-Spooky Halloween Fun! Costumes welcome.

December 10: Hanukkah Storytime
December 17: Santa comes to Storytime
We will not meet on November 26 and December 31.

Thursday: Sing & Stomp

Thursday mornings 10:30 to 11:00 in the Community Center Activity Room for all ages.

For Elementary Aged Children

Elementary Students:
Read to Hazel
the Therapy Dog

Tuesday afternoons from 4:00 to 5:00 in the Children’s Storytime Room. For readers ages 6 and up. September 9 - December 16.
Children gain confidence by reading aloud to a non-judgmental, friendly therapy dog! Nicole Goolsbey and Hazel are volunteers with the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. Hazel is four years old. She loves water, toys, and getting lots of pets.
Sign up each week for a ten minute time slot with Hazel.
To allow more children to read to Hazel, sign ups are limited to two weeks at a time.
Pre-registration required at 860-739-6926 ex. 2 or stop by the Children’s Library Desk.
We will not meet on the following days: November 4, November 11, November 25, December 23, or December 30.

Patrons of all ages are welcome to submit an original spooky story for our 1st annual library spooky writing contest!
Participants must be residents of East Lyme, CT or Salem, CT.

Submitted Stories must:

  • be set in East Lyme

  • be a minimum of two sentences and a maximum of ten pages

  • not have excessive foul language or gore (thanks!)

  • submissions will be accepted online starting October 1 through November 7.

The Library will be creating a bound copy of submissions. The three winning submissions from the East Lyme Public Library will be sent to the statewide contest to be added to the collection "Spooky CT".

Submissions are due by Friday, November 7 by 5:00 pm. Submissions will not be accepted in person at the Library.

For Young Adults in Grades 5-8

Love to read? Want to meet peers who also love to read? Join 8th grader and YA Book Club founder Amelia Massey to talk about favorite books. 

We meet on the second Wednesday of every month in the Storytime Room from 3:15-4:15pm. 
Students under the age of 12 need a signed permission slip to participate.

Monthly Take and Make Craft Kits

Craft kits are designed by our staff for ages 4 - 8 to complete at home. They are available starting the first Friday of each month while supplies last at the Children’s Library Desk.
