In this program, Philip Devlin will explore four connections between J. Robert Oppenheimer and Connecticut residents. These connections include a Harvard classmate of his, Dr. Ettore F. Carniglia; a New London resident named Harry Daghlian, who died of radiation poisoning at Los Alamos; Connecticut Senator Brien McMahon; and physicist John Midney of West Hartford, who worked on the Plutonium bomb at Los Alamos. All four knew Oppenheimer personally and have interesting stories to tell.
