  • East Lyme Public Library 39 Society Road Niantic, CT 06357 (map)

Second in a series of three lectures the EL Historical Society and the EL Public Library are pleased to have Tom Schuch as our special guest.

“Shapley Street: 300 Years of New London History through the Lens of a Single Street Corner…That No Longer Exists” Special guest speaker Tom Schuch will present a 300 year history of Shapley Street in New London. We will explore how this street intertwined with New London history from the earliest settlement, making its way through the West Indies trade and slavery, Civil War, Reconstruction, Jim Crow, Civil Rights, the Green Book and finally ending with urban renewal. Tom's passion lies in local forgotten and hidden New London history which has led to discoveries of several sites that are on the New London Black Heritage Walking Trail. He has had articles published in the local newspapers and the Connecticut Explored Magazine.

This free program is open to the public and will be held on Sunday March 3rd at 2:00pm in the East Lyme Senior Center, 37 Society Rd, Niantic.
