What should my child read this summer?

Anything they want to read! Summer reading should be fun! If you would like suggestions, we highlight the Nutmeg Books and the CT Governor’s Book List in the summertime, and more information about both programs are below. Additional titles we love can be found on our Reading Suggestions page.

Nutmeg Book Award Nominees:

The Nutmeg Book Award encourages children in grades 2-12 to read quality literature from a list of ten nominated fiction titles each year. The titles are nominated by Connecticut librarians and teachers. Connecticut youth votes to determine the winners in each of the four categories:
Elementary: Grades 2-3
Intermediate: Grades 4-6
Middle School: Grades 7-8
High School: Grades 9-12
The 2027 Nutmeg Book Award Nominees are announced in spring of 2026. The East Lyme Public Library Children’s and Young Adult’s Rooms highlight these titles on special displays for our Summer Reading program, and votes are collected during the summer. The Library then submits the votes in Spring 2027 to the Nutmeg Award Committee. The winners of the 2026 Nutmeg Book Award are:

Elementary Intermediate Middle School High School
